Old New York.

The history of New York is dark, dirty, and undeniably fascinating. Lately I have been reading "How the Other Half Lives" (1891), by renowned journalist and photographer Jacob Riis. If you want to see visual images that so clearly represent the inhabitants of New York during that time period, look no further than Riis' stark, often spectral photographs.

Old Paintings, New Photos.

Various Ephemera.

This interesting Victorian card was purchased at Archangel Antiques (334 E 9th St, New York, NY 10003, 212.260.9313). They have an incredible selection to wade through, between their collection of buttons, to cufflinks, to trade cards, to clothes. This is a place to dedicate an afternoon to.

I picked up this repro of an Audubon illustration at a street vendor who was selling a ton of interesting vintage and antique prints from books.

I purchased this bit of New York history the other day from Junk (197 N 9th St- between Bedford Ave & Driggs Ave- Brooklyn, NY 11211, 718.388.6981), for $3.99.

Uber Alles.

While this tattoo teeters on the line of being totally inappropriate, or perhaps straight up crosses it, I'm really pleased with the way it came out.
